). I am a Pawparazzi-Proud Dog Momma. There is nothing they can do that I would not find cute. I have come home to torn tissues on my floor and taken photos of them in the epicenter because it was “so adorable.” They clearly own me, not the other way around.
). I am a crazy Chicken Momma. This is pretty recent, but pretty accurate. I am a new mom to a flock of chickens, particularly one named Buttercup, who is basically my baby. I took my New Year’s Goal List pretty seriously when I wrote “Learn Something New Every Day.” Now, I am learning every day about the adventures of backyard farming!
). “Green Thumb” is basically the only adjective that describes me from April 20th until September 1st. I have a motto with my gardening friends, near and far, that “friends who garden together, stay together.” Sometimes friends who love to garden have come over to my house, and vice versa, just to seed, transplant, weed, or harvest. I am also a Master Gardener in my state, which is a fancy way to say I am certified to garden, teach gardening, and participant in decreasing food insecurity in my state on a volunteer basis.
). I am a philosophy nut who is addicted to self-improvement. The introspective life is my jam. Learning to come into the best self I can be, living the happiest and whole-hearted life I can, is my passion. Sometimes I read Martha Nussbaum’s philosophy texts just for fun, so I can analyze the world and deconstruct social issues.
). Nostalgia calls my soul. Antiques, old shows and movies, history, and it all – I love it all.
). If I have a “bae” it is tea, hot cocoa, or books. My house is home to probably at least 30 different teas, between herbal and “fun” teas (I’m probably underestimating here). Hot cocoa is only acceptable as unsweetened cocoa in cashew milk or coconut milk, with my own gauge on how much sugar to add, so that it is chocolate velvet on my tongue. My local librarian and I are friends who follow each other on Facebook – we’re cool. Whenever I need a new book recommendation, she is the best resource.
). “Fresh food foodie” is my middle name. I love to cook! I love to create and be adventurous with my food. I love to eat healthy, wholesome, locally sourced, clean food whenever I can. My favorite part of gardening is walking into my garden and picking fresh foods for a new meal. This doesn’t mean you won’t see an occasional appearance of pasta or other processed foods here…but I try to keep them as healthy as I can, organic, and down to a minimum.
). The word “bored” has been eradicated from my personal dictionary. If I am not spending time with my animals, family, or friends and sisters, then endless hobbies occupy my time, including: photography, art, Scrapbooking, gardening, writing, reading, nature walks, and beachcombing.
). Volunteerism and Activism are the soul foods I live on. Doing things for others, standing up for what’s right, and helping to make the world a better place is what makes the world go ‘round for me!
). Sometimes I go by “G’ma Katie.” This started while I was an active sister in my sisterhood, because a large majority handful of us have 80-year-old souls in a 20- something bodies. On the scale of Laverne to Shirley, I’m Shirley, sitting in the living room, playing Parcheesi with my friends. I still love to have fun; I’ve just come to love and accept the fact that I am an old soul and always will be.
